We all have a moment, or hundred, in our lives, when we feel we need to change something. And that something often starts with observing our current lives. What we are doing, what we are doing wrong, what we maybe shouldn’t be doing, and by the end of the day, what we want to change.
If you have gained a few (dozen) pounds, it’s time to start doing something about it. And there’s really mainly just three things you can do. Firstly, how much have you been walking? These days people take their car everywhere, but it very easy to start walking more. Yes, walking takes a little time, but it also gives you time to think, make plans and whatever else. Everyone can spare an hour a day for walking. And I know walking for the sake of walking can be boring. So two things – firstly, don’t just walk, your walk should have a purpose – getting to work, getting to school, whatever else. Yes, it can still be boring. So I personally started learning Italian with Duolingo during my walks. Now I have done it for nearly six months.
Second thing – look what you are eating. The easiest things to start with – stop eating bread and sweets. Lose sugar from your coffee. Then stop eating too much in general. And then you might want to look deeper into what you are actually eating. Yes, first day or two after you’ve changed your diet you might feel hungry, but your body adjusts, it gets used to the new regime in no time. And it will all be way easier later on. Another thing – people say that breakfast is important and well, possibly it is. But this too depends on a person. I personally don’t need breakfast. If I eat breakfast, I actually get hungry again earlier in a day than when I’m not eating breakfast.
Thirdly, start exercising. And no, walking isn’t part of that. Walking is extra. What you choose to do is up to you. It can be running, it can be swimming, it can be biking, it can be gym. Whatever it is, it’s good. And remember – even a three minute run is better than no run at all.
Besides improving your weight and health in general, you might also want to think about improving your finances. If you play lottery online every once in a while, it couldn’t hurt, unless you’re spending too much on it. Having a random chance of winning something is always good. You know, potential surprises and all that. But you might also want to look at your expenses – are all of them needed or can you cut some of them? And mainly, can you ask a raise, change your job, or get a side job? Maybe. Just an option.
If you’ve been sitting at home too much lately, you might definitely also want to consider becoming more active socially. How you do it is up to you – go to a bar, go hitch-hiking on your own (you’ll find lots of interesting people on the way), join a club of some sort or anything else like that. Just to be more social.
