To those who enjoy books, the moments spent reading them are the best of the day. But there is also something particular about the joy of sharing what we experienced with others, through a book club. If you have your own, or would like to create one, here are a few different ways to attract other readers to it, and to grow your club, to the pleasure of everyone else inside it.
Start a Monthly Newspaper
What better way to communicate than to print. After all, that is still how most book fanatics read their novels, today (printed on paper). Although printing a book to communicate on your book club would be expensive and complicated, newspaper print will certainly help you get noticed in a fun way. In it, you can print the review of the books that you have discussed during the month before. It can be a resume of what was said, or you can ask one different person from your group to give her opinion, each time. It is also a great place to let people know which books you will be discussing next.
But how do you get people to grab a copy of your newspaper, you may ask? You can create a simple distribution route, by dropping them at the various book stores around your city. Of course, you will have to ask permission first, but most of the time, book stores like to encourage people that want others to read more books. Therefore, that should not be too much of a difficult task.
Use Social Media
Of course, the internet has become the most common way for people to communicate their messages. However, that in itself doesn’t make it the best solution. In fact, there are so many people doing the same, that your message quickly gets lost within all the others. Getting customers to view their products or services has become hard for the biggest brands in the world; imagine how complex it will be for your book club, without investing a ton of money.
But although you will most certainly get more people interested through the use of a newspaper in book stores, you should still communicate on social media. After all, it is free, and you can catch the eye of a person that has the same interest as you, on the subject of book reading. To do so, you need to make sure that you post regularly. If once a day is too much, then aim for once a week. In the post, you can talk about your next club meeting, or give your opinion on books that you have read lately. Always make sure to add hashtags that will let people know what your post is about. You can use the name of authors as well as their books.
Getting new members through the newspaper print and social media will make your group more diverse. This is always a great thing, when sharing opinions on a given book. It can open your eyes, and the others as well, to something you did not notice while reading the pages, but that someone with a different view on life will have caught.
