The creative writing teacher, the delivery guy, the local Starbucks baristas, his best friend, her roommate, and the squirrel in the park all have one thing in common—they believe that Gabe and Lea should get together. Lea and Gabe are in the same creative writing class. They get the same pop culture references, order the same Chinese food, and hang out in the same places. Unfortunately, Lea is reserved, Gabe has issues, and despite their initial mutual crush, it looks like they are never going to work things out. But somehow even when nothing is going on, something is happening between them, and everyone can see it. Their creative writing teacher pushes them together. The baristas at Starbucks watch their relationship like a TV show. Their bus driver tells his wife about them. The waitress at the diner automatically seats them together. Even the squirrel who lives on the college green believes in their relationship.

Surely Gabe and Lea will figure out that they are ment to be together….

— Goodreads.com description

Quirky and so so so adorable, A Little Something Different is just the book I needed to get me in a good mood.

Reading this story felt like being part of a fandom — not only are you, as the reader, rooting for Gabe and Lea to get together, but every narrator (from their families, teachers and friends to a bench and even a squirrel) is rooting for them as well. Now THIS is the way to do multiple points-of-view!

The college setting felt so spot-on it made me want to throw on an ILLINI hoodie and start tailgating. Ahhh, memories.

You guys, this book is a delight on all fronts. When you want a romantic but unique pick-me-up read, this one is a must.

I actually posted a review for this yesterday and I completely agree with your review. I wasn’t sure if I would get lost with 14 different POVs, but they worked so well (although the bench and the squirrel were a bit silly). Also, I was afraid I would be disconnected from Gabe and Lea since we never get inside their heads, but that didn’t happen, I completely connected with the story. Did you read the interview, where the author said that she wrote the first draft in 6 days? What???? Can’t even imagine.

My pre-ordered copy of this book just arrived in the mail the other day, so the timing of your review couldn’t be more perfect! There’s nothing I love more than a good romance, and I’m excited about the fact that the story is told from every perspective but the two lead characters. Very cool! I’m particularly looking forward to hearing from the squirrel and from the bench. I can imagine they would have…interesting things to say 😉 Plus, I love that it reminds me so much of the ’90’s romantic comedies I still re-watch on a regular basis. It just sounds so cute!

I was so excited to see your review of this one. I recently picked it up, because, well, that cover is beautiful and I had heard some good things. I’m really excited to see how the 14 different perspectives plays out. Your review has bumped this one up the tbr pile for me, I think I might just sneak it in my vacation bag for an upcoming trip.

I have to say, I just love your reviews in general. You get right to the point with how the book made you feel instead of getting caught up in describing exactly what happens. So short and sweet! It’s refreshing because I know I always can stop to read your posts when they show up in my feed. 🙂
