She’s fought death and won. But how can she fight her fears?

Avry knows hardship and trouble. She fought the plague and survived. She took on King Tohon and defeated him. But now her heart-mate, Kerrick, is missing, and Avry fears he’s gone forever.

But there’s a more immediate threat. The Skeleton King plots to claim the Fifteen Realms for his own. With armies in disarray and the dead not staying down, Avry’s healing powers are needed now more than ever.Torn between love and loyalty, Avry must choose her path carefully. For the future of her world depends on her decision.

— Goodreads.com description

OMG the poor people in these books! So much torture and death and plague and traipsing through woods. Maria V. Snyder really knows how to put her characters through the ringer!

Fans of the first two books, Taste of Power and Scent of Magic (click here for my reviews), will absolutely want to check out this final book in the series to see how things end up for Avry, Kerrick and the gang.

For me, Snyder’s fantasy series (this one and Poison Study and its sequels) aren’t favorites within the genre — they are very politically and strategically oriented. I know a lot of you LOVE more tactical-focused and action-focused plots in your fantasy series, but I’m all about emotion ruling all.

Still! I committed to the series and just had to know where things ended up. I’m definitely satisfied with all the twists and turns and where things were left in the end — it was just unfortunately a bit of a trudge for me to get through all 400 pages.

I have yet to read this one, even though I do have it on my TBR pile. I don’t want to series to end since I’m attached to Avry and Kerrick and all their friends! Still, I have to know what happens to them so I guess I’ve got to get to it soon!

I’m working my way through this one right now and so far I’m really liking it. I just wish I had a bit more free time, holiday bustle is not a good time for fantasy books. I’m glad you enjoyed it and great review!
