Things I Like in Books 23

Awful drawings of things I like in books

NOTE: I am ridiculous and started a list called “Things I Like in Books.” These are drawings of the things on that list. Truly AWFUL drawings. I am now going to share them with you one at a time. Mostly on Saturdays. Okay, here we go.

I like it when books involve magic!

Examples: Well, Harry Potter obviously started it for me. Other recent ones include The Raven Boys by Maggie Stiefvater, Shadow and Bone by Leigh Bardugo and Born Wicked by Jessica Spotswood. Any magic books you could recommend?

I loved the Hex Hall series, which has some magic in it! I would also recommend Ruby Red. It has a little bit of time travel in it.

A lot people mentioned Hex Hall. I love that series. Rachel Hawkins (the author) recently came out with a book called School Spirits. Also, Old Magic by Marianne Curley is a good book.

As a lot of people have previously said, the Hex Hall series by Rachel Hawkins.
Also, the Chronicles of Narnia by C.S Lewis, A Discovery of Witches and Once a Witch. The latter two I have not read and I’m not sure the CON series is what you had in mind, but it can’t hurt to mention it.
On a side note and I know this is self promotion but nonetheless, I recently started a book blog so please check it out. It should be linked somewhere here.

I love magic as well (a newfound reading passion of mine)! I just finished Born of Illusion by Teri Brown and loved it (review on my blog). I also really enjoyed Night Circus; it’s a little older of an audience but it has magic and love…what more can you ask for?

I love magic in books too-with HP obviously being the stand out! I’ve been really focusing on contemporary lately though so I don’t have any other recs beyond what’s already been said.

I think I’m a fan of just about anything that just seems out of the norm.. Mix of Sci-Fi, Dystopian or in-between. (Currently reading Beautiful Creatures)
