The Passage meets Ender’s Game in an epic new series from award-winning author Rick Yancey.

After the 1st wave, only darkness remains. After the 2nd, only the lucky escape. And after the 3rd, only the unlucky survive. After the 4th wave, only one rule applies: trust no one.

Now, it’s the dawn of the 5th wave, and on a lonely stretch of highway, Cassie runs from Them. The beings who only look human, who roam the countryside killing anyone they see. Who have scattered Earth’s last survivors. To stay alone is to stay alive, Cassie believes, until she meets Evan Walker. Beguiling and mysterious, Evan Walker may be Cassie’s only hope for rescuing her brother—or even saving herself. But Cassie must choose: between trust and despair, between defiance and surrender, between life and death. To give up or to get up.

— Goodreads.com description

I don’t know if you’ve heard me say this before, but I LOVE APOCALYPSE BOOKS.* And I love books that involve survival in the wilderness.

Add in an alien invasion and holy cow, you guys, The 5th Wave was stunning.

I was amazed by how well Rick Yancey melded multiple points together, weaving together the stories until the very went when — pow! wow! did that just happen!? — it all came together perfectly.

And how he made me questions everyone’s allegiances? Ack! So good! I love it in a book when you don’t know whether someone is good or bad. Oh, I smell another “Things I Like in Books” coming up!

The 5th Wave is one of my most highly recommended books of the year so far. You have to check this one out! A total wow. Now, who’s going to make this into a movie? Or, better yet, a TV show? Get on it, Hollywood!

I just bought a copy yesterday! I’m going to start it next Thursday when I’m on a flight, that way I have lots of time to enjoy it (because I feel like I’ll have to read it in one sitting anyways). Great review 😀

Ha! Great review & video. I’m right there with you – I couldn’t kill bunnies either. They are way too adorable to kill. So, let’s hope the Apocalypse doesn’t come any time soon 😉

I haven’t read this one yet, but all I have heard is, mostly, very high praise! I’m so glad to read you loved it too. It’s one of the first books I want to be reading once we are moved, two weeks from now!

#1: I LOVE PIRATE’S BOOTY. Your video has made me crave some now, and I think I need to go get some later.

#2: I’m still not sure if I want to read this book, mostly because of the alien factor. But we shall see.

#3: Yeah, I wouldn’t be the best person to have around in the event of an apocalypse either…
