Things I Like in Books 17

Awful drawings of things I like in books

NOTE: I am ridiculous and started a list called “Things I Like in Books.” These are drawings of the things on that list. Truly AWFUL drawings. I am now going to share them with you one at a time. Mostly on Saturdays. Okay, here we go.

I like it when books have doodles.

Examples: OK, well, it’s not always doodles, but I think you’ll know what I mean. Like in Amy and Roger’s Epic Detour by Morgan Matson, every chapter included playlists with doodles, receipts, maps, etc. Cute handrawn/visual elements. LOVE that in books!

This is one of my favourite things ever in books – I’m a big fan of maps in the front of books, too! I think this was one of the reasons I loved Amy & Roger so much.

I think the thing about drawings or receipts or maps is that they add such texture to a book. It’s like you’ve been given an artifact from the world of the story.

Any extras in a book always make the story seem so much more real to me.

I quite agree! I know we were supposed to be over pictures in books after grade two, but I can’t help it! I used to be a huge fan of those Amelia’s Diarys by Marissa Moss. They were journal pages with all sorts of drawings. I’ve been in love with that sort of page layout ever since!

Oh, I love those too. It makes the book so much cuter <3 But I usually only see it in contemp reads, and I am not a big fan of YA contemp… BTW, does Diary of Wimpy Kid counts? I think the stick drawings are pretty cute ;)
