Things I Like in Books 4

Awful drawings of things I like in books

NOTE: I am ridiculous and started a list called “Things I Like in Books.” These are drawings of the things on that list. Truly AWFUL drawings. I am now going to share them with you one at a time. Mostly on Saturdays. Okay, here we go.

I like it when a main character and her best friend are supportive, loving and always have each other’s backs. Why so much girl-on-girl hatred and backstabbing, authors? GIRL POWER.

Latest example: And by the Way… by Denise Deegan

Cute – love the srawings even though you think they’re awful :-) And I do love supportive friendships in books too – although I haven’t read the book you mentioned.

Oh my gosh, I agree completely! I get so frustrated when all these girls hate each other in books. Especially when it is implied that girls are just catty.

I love it when they are truly best friends, and will be there for each other. Great post!!

AGREED. Girls being good friends is like the best thing to read about ever.
Besides kissing. But you already knew that.

I’m reading Daughter of Smoke and Bone (yeah, I know, totally behind the times etc) and the friendship in that is stellar. Another solid example of amazing friendship was Ruby Red.

    YAY FRIENDS!

I think friendships are quite often neglected in books, and that makes me sad. I just finished reading Follow The Blue by Brigid Lowry, and one of my favourite things about it was that as much time was spent focusing on the friendship between the girls at the centre of the book, as was the romance around the edges. (Love this series, by the way!)

The drawing is adorable. Yeah it would be nice to have friends who are supportive more in books. Haven’t read that book but I think I’ll check it out since I’m such a book slut.

Yes! Best friends forever! I love a great healthy (yet realistic) portrayal of adolescent friendship. Not every girl goes through a TON of drama with her BFF, and I love when I read that representation in YA lit.
