Confessions of a Book Freak

I’ve been thinking a lot lately that if you guys REALLY knew some of the things I think about when it comes to books…well, you might think I’m CRAZY.

But, I figure we all have our idiosyncrasies. Maybe you get physically ill when someone bends the spine or turns over the page on your books. Or maybe you’ve already got the names of your future children planned out and they’re, like, Rosalie and Jasper or something.

I DON’T KNOW, but I know I won’t judge it.

So, I hope you won’t judge mine:

Oh, trust me, we’re just scratching the surface here. I could go on. FOR A LONG TIME.*

I hope you’ll share a few of your bookish confessions in the comments below. Because, truly, I can’t be the only crazy one…

* For a few more, see my post “Top 10 Bookish Lies I’ve Told”.

I do the same thing regarding bookshelves, ESPECIALLY if I’ve been on Pinterest a lot. Wouldn’t it be just amazing to be able to design a library? Get some good lighting, maybe a window seat, and then all the wall space for built in bookshelves, and they could have one of those roll-y ladders like in Beauty and the Beast!!! <–I got carried away there, didn't I?

When I buy a house, I’m going to make sure to get a two-bedroom house, just so I can maybe finally have those floor-to-ceiling bookshelves I’ve been wanting.

I mean, I’m jealous of Belle in Beauty and the Beast because of the Beast’s library. Um. . . . Probably not so good to be jealous of a Disney character, right? I’m book crazy in so many ways.

ummmm yes! I am super picky about my books. I don’t really let people borrow them anymore unless I have another copy or okay with it being in less than perfect condition. I’ve learned my lessons! ALSO I have a HUGE thing for covers, I definitely judge a book by one. I get so happy every time I’m in a bookshop!

I am EXACTLY the same about the subway. I have started taking longer journey home so that I change to my train home four stops early JUST because that makes it more likely for me to get a seat and be able to read the whole way home.In fact a guy once stepped in front of me and grabbed the last seat. I glared at him until he pulled out a copy of the Hunger Games, and then I forgave him. A worthy cause.

I am as crazy as you! I think this is toally normal for book freaks – as we all are :)
I tried to perfect my skills btw; I can now read on the subway even without a free seat. It is hard but worth it.
When I am really into a book I prepare a mock exam for the kids I am tutoring just that I can read my book while they do it. Shame on me, I know but that’s hwo crazy I am.
On days when I am in a bad mood I often visit a bookstore because everytime I enter one I start smiling and be happy again. Last year while in vacation in London I spent one whole bookish day (thank God, my mum is just as crazy as I am) – went to the British library and then to a huge, mega amazing bookstore. Not enough time to see everything but I had books all around myself for a whole day – but a lot too but I think that’s life :)

YES! I am the exact same way! The reading on public transportation has become such an issue that I’ll go out of my way to get on an earlier stop so that I have a seat and can read!

And bookstores? Heaven on earth, or at least in my opinion. My boyfriend won’t go with me anymore cause I get all starry-eyed and forget he’s there with me.

But, he does understand my obsession. And presented me with “his plans for my personal library” when we build our house in a few years. Now THAT is love right there. ; )

This is hysterical. I love it. I can totally relate to the subway thing. One thing I do is always have a back up book in my bag. My coworkers make fun of me for that one. Or how I keep borrowing and buying books when I’m not reading what I already have? Oh yes. My wallet likes that one most. Great video & perfect post for a Friday! Have a great weekend!

Oh Anna you are not alone!!! With everything from your video I have a few things to add for my craziness…

I feel like the characters are my best friends! And we have adventures sometimes when I daydream.

I live in a small town and so I was worried on Tuesday that I wouldn’t find Bitterblue or Insurgent. I had a couple mild freak outs at the stores and finally found them! In the stores I went to I had employees coming up to me asking me if I was ok.

I sit and read while I wait for everything and anything.

Loved the video! I definitely agree, particularly the bookshelves one. I can’t wait until I have a house/apartment with enough room for another bookshelf. And in my dreams, it will be a super cool one.

My craziness about books? Honestly, I tend to forget what’s “normal,” LOL. For instance, the other day, I opened up the new book I’d just received in the mail and smelled it without a second thought. One friend I was with at the time looked at me strangely and asked if I just smelled the book. I told her yes, and it was perfectly normal. Alas, she did not agree with me.

Other things? I have a book with me everywhere I go, even if I’m 99% sure I’m not going to need one. I read while I do everything. I keep a file of book quotes I love. I sometimes go with ridiculously little amounts of sleep, just so I can finish a book.

I guess the weirdest thing I do is giggle… a lot… when I read. I get to a part that isn’t necessarily funny, but just excites me in some way and I can’t help but shriek or giggle with excitement (often loudly). Then someone says “What’s so funny???” and I can’t even quote a funny line from the book because it usually ISN’T funny.. it’s usually just revealing some event that drives the book, or the start of a new romance, etc. But yeah, I giggle.

You are definitely NOT crazy. I will walk in a bookstore, knowing I have no money to buy books, and knowing that it will be insanely difficult to resist the temptation, just so that I can be in the middle of all those bookshelves. I don’t really get the urge to yell about it necessarily, but I *do* feel so calm and collected in a bookstore it’s like “I could totally live here. That’s allowed, right?”

Trust me, those of us who are here blogging are the MOST likely to share your crazy. (And personally, I think it’s everybody else who is crazy, not us =P)

    Bookshelves!!!

Honestly, when I see a name I like in a book, I immediately ask my husband if it’s an acceptable baby name for our future kids.

Also, if I’m really into the book I’m reading, I’ll start to have bizarre dreams that spin off of the book. Like last night for example, I was reading a completely swoon-worthy romance novel, and then I had a nightmare of tons of swoon-worthy men chasing me around (I’m not an attention-grabber, especially when it involves the opposite sex).
