Let’s Hear It for the (Good) Boy

Lieu of a review after my reread of Stealing Heaven by Elizabeth Scott, I feel the need to sing this on the top of my lungs…

There’s so many bad boys out there in young adult fiction, so let’s take a moment to “hear it for the boy”…the GOOD boy.

With so many good books to read and so little time, why did I recently reread both Stealing Heaven (Elizabeth Scott) and Going Too Far (Jennifer Echols)? The good boys, duh. And these boys are the epitome of good boys…they’re cops. Who knew that could be attractive?

Let’s face it: The bad girl/good guy scenario in fiction doesn’t get the attention it deserves, and the bad-boy thing is beyond played out.

So many young adult main characters are girls, and so many of them futilely busy themselves trying to steal attention or reform a player. Well, what about the noble boys who are chasing the girl? Let’s show some love for the good boys, dammit!

I’ve pulled the comments out to the main post for everyone to see…please leave a note about your favorite fictional “good boy” below. Let me start it off…

PS: If this had been a full review of Stealing Heaven, suffice it to say, I’d leave it at this:

Yes, I most certainly did purchase this book b/c Anna told me to! When has she strayed me wrong about hot boys in YA contemps?? She is after all the one who introduced me to Jennifer Echols (John After? Doug? HELLO!!!) As much as I love my bad boys, it's the good boys who steal my heart.

I would like to say that I read your review of Switched, which caused me to buy it for my kindle. I also read another book after reading one of your reviews. Don't remember which though.:)

I am so sick of bad boys/good girls. They're everywhere nowadays. And even when it's a love triangle between the bad boy and the good boy, the good boy turns out to be not that great and I'm cheering for the 'bad' boy because he's more interesting (case in point: Fallen by Lauren Kate and Twilight). I like a good 'ole switcheroo.
I've put quite a few books on my wishlist due to your reviews…

Totally agree that Greg is very swoonworthy, though Stealing Heaven fell a little flat for me. Greg definitely epitomizes the man-I-want-to-make-out-with-this-dude feelings I get when reading about hot good guys!

I need to read both of those books! Also, I like my boys to be good with a little bad mixed in 😉

You know, like ADRIAN from the VA series… He's good, but not goody-goody like D.

I haven't read Stealing Heaven yet but I'm adding it to my wishlist pronto. As for good guys you have to pick up Fixing Delilah (if you haven't already) by Sarah Ockler. Patrick is super swoonworthy! Also if you're a Dessen Fan Eli in Along for the Ride is pretty awesome.
